Tradecraft: Black Dynamite Comes To TV

Deadline reports that Adult Swim has picked up an animated series about Black Dynamite, the ex-CIA agent hero of the eponymous 2009 blaxploitation spoof movie.  If you've seen the movie, then you'll know why that's awesome news.  It's an absolutely hilarious loving send-up of the genre, as meticulous in recreating that low-budget Seventies aesthetic as the OSS 117 movies are at recreating the look of Sixties technicolor spy movies.  If you haven't seen Black Dynamite but liked those films, do yourself a favor and check it out! The half-hour cartoon, which has been in the works for a few years, will finally debut in 2012 and feature the voices of the film's stars, including Michael Jai White, Tommy Davidson, Kym Whitley and Byron Minns. According to the trade blog, The Boondocks' Carl Jones will "spearhead" the series, executive producing along with Jon Steingart and Jillian Apfelbaum, while the film's director, Scott Sanders, will produce along with White and Minns. If 2012 is too long to wait for your Black Dynamite fix, the hero returns sooner in the original graphic novel, Black Dynamite: Slave Island, out this week from APE Entertainment.
